Fifty Shades of Grey

This may come as a surprise to you, because of my overall manly exterior, but for the Fourth Quarter independent reading assignment, I have chosen to read a book titled Fifty Shades of Grey, written by E.L. James.   This book, though written in a horrible manner was actually fairly interesting.  From the beginning I could plainly tell that the author was not an experienced writer, but it did not matter because the plot and the story actually interested me quite a lot.   The book revolves around a man with the name Christian Grey and a girl called Anastasia Steele (often called Ana).  After being lured in, Ana becomes very attracted to Christian.  The part of the book that got me hooked, was the fact that he was able to lure her in so easily.  Though this is a strange topic, it is very interesting to me and I think it will be a very researchable topic.  I plan to research how attraction occurs.  Both male and female, and how various biological factors effect whether or not someone is attractive in the eye of the beholder.  I speak not only about physical attractiveness.  Clearly as depicted in the novel, Christian was quite the looker,  but beyond that he was also smooth talking and was very experienced sexually.  I plan to research all of these factors.  I hope to find conclusive evidence one way or another regarding whether or not Christians methods of seduction are realistic, as well as go into more depth about what makes both men and women 'tic'.  The book portrays are very dark relationship between the two lovers, and I am interested to see if this is at all realistic to the 'average' real relationship both physically and emotionally.  I predict that physically, most couples more or less avoid the "BDSM" or bondage, but I am more interesting in the emotional ties that the two encounter, and I hope to find out how real relationships work in similar situations.  It seems that from what most people believe women become more emotionally attached than men, and though I also agree with this,  I would like to know for sure.   This research is not for explaining the reading per say, because the book is an easy book to follow, but more to quench my interest in the topic.  This book has given me a reason to do this research and not feel weird about it, which is great.

  1. I am, uh, speechless.... So, phew. I am glad for the PG-rated entry and I am interested in your research. I also envision infinite possibilities for your multigenre paper itself. I also want to point out that apostrophes that show possession are important... You wrote above, "Christians methods."
